About the film
About This Video
In the film: A woman in a traditional Sámi gákti stops her snowmobile under swirling green northern lights and asks the camera, in Thai, which way it is to the sunshine and a warm beach – a comedic contrast on the Finnmark plateau.
The film was made for two reasons: as a quality test of the Veo video model, and to spark interest in the northern lights – and the urge to come and see them – among Asian travellers, commissioned by backpacker.asia.

Purpose
Why Was This Video Made?
1. A quality test of Veo
Video models are moving so fast that what was impossible six months ago can be standard today. That is why we put every new model through concrete, demanding scenes before we use it on client work. This film is one of those tests for Veo: a single text prompt, one 10-second clip – picture, dialogue and sound generated in the same run.
Here is what we were looking for:
- Light and aurora: Does the aurora come out as a soft, believable green arc over the plateau – and does it hold up next to the snowmobile's headlight and the starry sky?
- Snow and landscape: Texture in the snow, depth in the mountains, and night light that doesn't turn grey or flat.
- Face and costume: Detail in the gákti, its woven borders, the silver brooch, the fur hat and goggles – and whether the face stays stable through the whole clip.
- Motion and camera: The snowmobile slowing down naturally, the woman turning to camera, and camera movement that feels cinematic.
- Temporal consistency: People, clothing and vehicle looking the same from the first frame to the last, with no flicker or "morphing".
- Dialogue and sound: Generated Thai dialogue, visible breath in the cold, and sound that fits the scene.
What we learned
Veo delivers impressive light, snow and costume detail from a short prompt, and the character stays stable through the clip. The weaknesses are the usual ones for video models: text and logos – like the brand name on the snowmobile – turn into made-up lettering, and cultural details always need a human review. The 10-second format works well for social media, but longer films mean stitching several clips together.
2. Northern lights wanderlust – for backpacker.asia
The film was commissioned by backpacker.asia to spark interest in the northern lights and the urge to travel among Asian travellers. That is why the guide speaks Thai, and why the punchline is a joke many people in warmer climates will recognise: why travel to cold and darkness when you could be lying on a beach? The answer is in the sky behind her.

INT. PROMPT — SCENE 03
Show full prompt (reconstructed from the film – English works best)
Cinematic 10-second night scene on the Finnmark plateau: a woman in a traditional Sámi blue gákti, fur hat and ski goggles rides a snowmobile under swirling green northern lights. She stops, turns to camera and asks in Thai, with visible breath, which way it is to the sunshine and a warm beach. Comedic contrast. Wide shots of the snowy landscape and starry sky, realistic.

Production prompt & creative brief for the custom version
Create a stunning 4K documentary-style video showcasing Sami culture and traditions under the aurora borealis (northern lights). Start with traditional Sami herder in traditional gákti (clothing) tending to reindeer across Arctic tundra. Show the vast, pristine landscape with snow-covered mountains and forests. Transition to close-ups of traditional craftsmanship - Sami duodji (handicrafts) including traditional jewelry and tools. Showcase the northern lights dancing dramatically across the Arctic sky, reflecting on snow and water. Include cultural elements: traditional Sami turf hut (lavvu), traditional practices, and the connection between the Sami people and their Arctic homeland. Use warm, authentic color grading that honors the subject matter. Cinematic camera movements and smooth transitions. Final shot reveals guide smiling at the camera with aurora borealis behind. Include subtle ambient sounds of Arctic wind and nature. Film-grade production quality throughout.
